Visiting Program

The Department of Applied Economic II offers a limited number of Visiting Scholar appointments for externally-funded faculty members or researchers from other institutions. The Visiting Scholar Program aims to promote international research on the Department’s main research fields.

The Visiting Scholars Program is designed to offers time and resources to visiting scholars in order to focus on a research project and move it forward in an intellectually stimulating and comfortable environment, share work in progress and research findings, gain feedback from peers, develop linkages, and occasionally collaborate in joint projects with other faculty members.

Practical Arrangements

Applicants:

The positions are open to candidates from Spain and abroad who hold a Ph.D. in Economics. The Department also welcomes applications from advanced graduate students who will complete their Ph.D. before beginning the fellowship or shortly after it.

Duration:

Visiting scholarships will normally run for one semester. A limited number of academic year fellowships with teaching opportunities are available. In exceptional cases, the Department might offer a two-year postdoctoral visiting scholarship, which would include teaching one course per year.

Timing:

Visiting scholars may start at any time during the academic year, subject to agreement between each scholar and the Department.

Residency:

Visiting Scholars are expected to be in residence during their tenure at the Department of Applied Economics. Absences of more than a few days are discouraged and require the Chairman’s permission.

Relationship with the Department:

Because our visitors are an important part of the scholarly community at the Department, we expect them to attend and participate in most Departmental events, including the seminar and lecture series. We look forward both to their participation in our events and to less formal intellectual interaction in day-to-day settings. Visiting Scholars are expected to give a seminar paper on their research whilst they are visiting the Department. The Department of Applied Economics II has its own peer-reviewed Working Paper series to which visiting scholars are invited to submit at least one paper written during their stay at the Department. The series is intended to speed dissemination of work-in-progress for use and feedback by other scholars. The research may then appear later in books or journals. We expect Visiting Scholars to publish the results of research undertaken and / or completed during their stay. We ask that such publications contain an acknowledgment of the Department of Applied Economics support.

Status in the Department:

Visiting Scholars are faculty members or scholars from other institutions who are granted temporary status at the University of Valencia. Although this carries no financial assistance, the Department can provide support services that may help you in your research, including shared office space. Visiting Scholars have access to the library, and other university facilities and services.

Funding:

At present applications can only be considered from those who already have (or expect to have) adequate financial support. All applicants must therefore secure external funding for their time at the University of Valencia.
Prospective applicants may consider the following funding sources:

Visiting scholars require a selection process and applications are considered on a rolling basis. Candidate proposals are brought before the Department Faculty Committee for review and approval.
